Welcome to the City’s Open Space website! We are glad you chose to visit with us today and we hope that you enjoy learning all about how our City is preserving lands for future generations. Santa Clarita property owners and residents are now reaping the rewards of their new Open Space Preservation District, with the purchase of lands in and around the Santa Clarita Valley that will forever be preserved.
While our City can control development to some extent, our hands are often tied because property owners have a right to develop their property. Through the creation of the Open Space Preservation District, the City becomes the property owner, along with local partners, and will then preserve these acquired public lands forever as mandated by the new District.
By adding more parkland and open space, we are also helping to improve local air quality and protect property values. We view this new District as a unique opportunity to ensure that the Santa Clarita of the future is not overrun by development, but rather a beautiful greenbelt surrounds our City.
